Sweetwater Brewery: Brew Your Cask Off

As you know from our last post, we were pretty upset about not being able to make it to Sweetwater Brewery's 'Brew Your Cask Off'' a couple of weekends ago. Having already bought our tickets, it only seemed right to do something fun with them and reward one of our readers - with a catch.

We've finally gotten around to posting the guest post that was required as payment from the ticket winner, Kathleen. She had a blast as was our intention for the winner.

What an exciting and fun event! I didn't know what to expect when we arrived at Sweetwater.
After our tickets were taken, we were each given a small, small drinking glass with a white ticket stub inside. We were also given a menu explaining the types of beers that were offered for tasting and the businesses/companies that created them. Pencils were included so tasters could keep notes of their favorite beers. It was fun to learn what the ingredients were and the types of beers (e.g., pale ales, wheats, and ports) that were available.

There were buckets on the floor near the tables so people could pour out the beers if they didn't like the taste. Water stations were also available so guests could cleanse their palettes or rehydrate.

The ticket stubs were used to vote on guests' favorite casks that were created. (Last month, I was lucky enough to help "create" Williamson Bros.' beer.) Visitors just had to drop their tickets in the Sweetwater 12 pack boxes next to their favorite beers to vote for their favorite casks.
The event and 80 casks were outside under large, white tents that kept beer enthusiasts dry from the rain. A few bands played while several restaurants had booths offering food that one could purchase.

I also went inside Sweetwater and took a self-guided tour of the brewery itself. The size of the big steel vats were really impressive.

Kathleen teaches art at an Atlanta area high school and is a freelance artist. You can see some of her work on the Williamson Bros. BBQ sauces and on their Twitter account. Thanks Kathleen!
