The large grey building up on the hill in this picture is where they keep the barrels of whiskey. If I remember correctly there are about 70 barrel houses on the property and they are huge! We saw them on the horizon before we even got into Lynchburg. They don't allow pictures inside any of the buildings.
Back when Jack Daniel's was started (in the mid 1800's) , this is where all of the business was conducted. If everything looks like it's got a dusting of black powder in these pictures that's because it does! Apparently it is common for the trees and buildings around breweries to grow a black mold because of the yeast that is used. It's harmless and actually makes everything look really "rich".
The tour lasted about an hour and at the end...well, Lynchburg is in a dry county...so we got a nice glass of lemonade. ;-)

And if you want a taste of the tour with the same guide we had here you go!
I've always wanted to do that tour. Every time we head up to Nashville to see my Dawgs play Vandy i wish we'd made time to stop off and go through the distillery.
ReplyDeleteHopefully this year we can take a long weekend and spend some more time in Tennessee. What great pics - thanks for sharing!
